Weird Chemical Smell! Sep 07, 2010
These speakers sound great. I bought a pair of Sony speakers with a subwoofer and all you could hear was bass. Anyway, I exchanged them for the bose speakers and the sound quality is much improved BUT.. There's this weird chemical, toxic smell coming from both speakers. It's so bad it gives me a headache and I have to either put them away or open my window.

I had this same problem with a Vizio HDTV and I had to take it back and get a different brand. I called the company and the customer support told me it's a flame retardant they spray on the circuitry. This is so stupid. Why spray toxic chemicals and give us lung cancer in order to prevent a fire that probably won't happen anyway if you just build the thing right. Stop using cheap materials & trying to cut corners Bose!

I guess I'll try to just play it and leave my window open until the chemicals burn off, but I won't like it.

I bought these speakers at Bestbuy. As soon as I turned them on, there was a hum/buzz. It was very pronounced if I turned the volume 50% or higher. It sounds like feedback, but it even happens when the speakers aren't plugged in to anything. I returned them and tried two other sets while in the store (thinking that maybe I had a bad set). Nope, all three sets had the same hum/buzz. If you are highly insensitive to noise, then these maybe okay for you. However, if you listen to music with your ears and your brain, then the Bose Companion II "speakerettes" simply won't do. And, you don't need to pay $99 for junk. Pay less and get what you pay for.

Man, is Bose all marketing and no substance? I'm beginning to wonder.

The best speakers I ever owned. Have them for over 4 years and still works perfectly. They small but the sound is clear and loud. Love them.

Ok, we are taking about 2.0 speakers and I don't want to compare this with Dolby or 3.1 or 7.1 or what ever.

These are great computer speakers, I have the laptop connected to my HDTV but for sound, the output from the laptop goes to these bose speakers.

The sound quality is very very good for the desktop speakers.

Now I have connected the output of the HDTV to the bose speakers, now watching movies and playing games on ps3 has a different effect than before (with tv speakers)

I will definitely recommend this product to anymore.

I got this speakers for $99 3 years back and it is still the same, and the speakers are still doing well.

The speakers have a robust, and clear sound. Worth everything I had to pay.
