overclocks really well , unclocked multiplier really helps a lot..boosted some more muscle power for my 8800GT SLI setup
gave it four star because of its price even when the nehalems came out.

With a heat tolerant X38 or 48 chipset motherboard from Asus or Gigabyte this CPU can be overclocked to nearly 4 GHz with the supplied fan, using no fancy cooling devices. Worth every penny. The standard (not Xtreme) processors will get flaky and hot well under that speed.

I got this cpu in 2008 (This was the best cpu at the time). When CPUs got better i needed to catch up, so I overclocked it from 3 ghz to 3.3 ghz but it was unstable. so I changed it to 3.16 ghz and now, it HAULS!!! INTEL FOR LIFE!!!!!

I have been using QX 9650 since 07 March, 2008. It has been working tirelessly and flawlessly for, um, 4 years and 1 month, overclocked at 3.79 GHz on a GA-P35-DS4 MOBO. I had originally paid 797.48 Euro for it, and let me tell you something, IT'S WORTH EVERY SINGLE PENNY. This CPU overclocks so well, that it is able to work at 3.79 GHZ with all Intel power saving features like C1E and Enhanced Step turned on, which means that the CPU is idling at a mere 2274.21 MHZ (2.27 GHz) and only runs at 3790 MHz (3.79 GHz) when required (like when playing games). My temperatures are 32 C idle and 56-60 full load on AIR and using a Cooler Master case. The CPU voltage setting is 1.31 idle and 1.33 full load. According to the SANDRA Benchmark utility from SIS Software, my CPU was found to have similar performance with an overclocked Core i7 2600K. I am able to play the latest games, such as Star Wars: The Old Republic at max quality settings with 40-60 FPS (Radeon HD 5830 video card). I am going to keep this rig for at least two years more, as I am extremely satisfied with QX 9650. Here's my CPUZ validation data: [...]
PROS: Extremely tough and reliable, excellent performer, able to run the latest games very well.
CONS: Overheats when overclocked at or above 3.81 GHz on air (to my experience), requires 1.46V CPU voltage to be stable at 4.0 GHz on air, which is NOT a sustainable nor a safe setting.
